O Tym Dlc
Rok 1990, linia LGV Sud-Est od ponad dekady łączy Paryż i Lyon, znacząco skracając czas podróży pomiędzy oboma miastami. Kontynuacją linii na południe kraju jest LGV Rhône-Alpes, która prowadzi w kierunku Valence.

Mierząca 115 kilometrów linia otwierana była w dwóch etapach, część trasy uruchomiono w 1992 roku z okazji zimowych igrzysk olimpijskich w Albertville, aby zapewnić lepsze połączenie z Lyon, drugą część trasy otwarto w lecie 1994 roku, wraz z otwarciem nowej stacji Lyon-Saint-Exupéry Airport.

Kiedy linia LGV Rhône-Alpes była już gotowa, podjęto decyzję, aby rozbudować trasę w kierunku południa kraju. Nowa część linii przybrała nazwę LGV Méditerranée i rozciągać miała się aż po Valence. Ten ostateczny odcinek miał za zadanie dołączyć Marsylię do obszaru linii wysokich prędkości, co także pozwolić miało na konkurowanie z liniami lotniczymi, które także oferowały podobne połączenia.

Budowa linii LGV Méditerranée rozpoczęła się w 1996 roku, obszar nowej części linii wyniosił 126 kilometrów i zmierzał aż do Marseille-Saint-Charles, z dodatkowymi przystankami w Avignon i Aix-en-Provence. Linia została oficjalnie otwarta w 2001 roku.

Obsługiwane przez pociągi wysokiej prędkości TGV® Duplex®, linie LGV Rhône-Alpes i LGV Méditerranée zaczęły przewozić tysiące pasażerów na południe Francji z szybkością 300 km/h, a nawet 320 km/h na pozamiejskich terenach.

Cały obszar trasy wyposażony jest w TVM430 (Transmission Voie-Machine), rewolucyjny kabinowy system sterowania ruchem kolejowym, przeznaczony dla pociągów wysokich prędkości. Potrzeba opracowania oddzielnego systemu sygnalizacji wynika z prędkości, z jaką poruszają się pociągi TGV. Maszynista pociągu nie byłby w stanie obserwować z odpowiednią precyzją sygnałów wyświetlanych na semaforach. TVM430 wyświetla informacje w kabinie, dzięki czemu maszynista dowiaduje się o dopuszczalnej prędkości, bez potrzeby patrzenia na semafory. Jedynie podczas dojazdu do Marsylii, używany jest klasyczny system BAL.
