Die Hochgeschwindigkeitseisenbahnen Frankreichs, die vom ikonischen TGV® Duplex dominiert werden, werden nun mit der atemberaubenden Ligne Grande Vitesse zum Leben erweckt. Marseille Saint-Charles nach Avignon TGV-Strecke für den Train Simulator.

Die Strecke wurde 1996 als Hochgeschwindigkeitsstrecke gebaut, die sich über 257,5 Kilometer (160 Meilen) vom Südosten Frankreichs Richtung Norden erstreckt. Die LGV Méditerranée verläuft vom Ende der LGV Rhône-Alpes in Valence, über Avignon und Aix-en-Provence zum Terminus in Marseille.

Die Strecke wurde 2001 eröffnet. Auf der von der SNCF® betriebenen LGV Méditerranée verkehren TGV Duplex Hochgeschwindigkeitszüge. Die Züge fahren unter 25kV Wechselstrom-Oberleitungen und erreichen bis zu 320 km/h. Diese revolutionären Züge verkürzen die Reisezeiten von Paris an die französische Südküste. Diese sind mit denen der Airlines vergleichbar, sodass die TGV Züge die Mehrzahl an Reisenden transportieren und dabei 750 km (470 Meilen) in ca. 3 Stunden schaffen. Das ist schneller als so manche Airline.

An der Strecke liegen vier Bahnhöfe, drei davon wurden extra neu erbaut. Gare de Valence TGV - eine neuartig erbaute, mehrstöckige Bahnstation die den einfachen Übergang zwischen den Hochgeschwindigkeitslinien und den lokalen Zügen ermöglicht, Gare d’Avignon TGV - der aufgrund seiner Lage in der Nähe des Stadtzentrums populär wurde und Gare d‘Aix-en-Provence TGV - ein beliebter Bahnhof mit der Möglichkeit der einfachen Weiterreise in das nördliche Marseille und zum Flughafen Marseille und einer regelmäßigen Busverbindung. Die letzte Station ist Marseille-Saint-Charles, ein Endbahnhof, der früher für die Anbindung der umgebenden Gebiete und der französischen Riviera gebaut wurde. Den Bahnhof erreicht man über die klassischen französischen Hauptstrecken.

Aufgrund der hügeligen Landschaft in Frankreichs Süden hat die LGV Méditerranée viele steile An- und Abstiege, ohne die beeindruckende Zahl an Einschnitten, Tunneln und Viadukten zu nennen, welche die Landschaft durchschneiden; der längste Tunnel darunter ist mehr als 8 Kilometer (5 Meilen) lang. Nicht nur die unglaubliche Landschaft ist ein erwähnenswertes Wunder, die LGV Med. wird mit 300 - 320 km/h befahren und bietet schnelle, zuverlässige Zugverbindungen, bei denen die schöne Landschaft des südlichen Frankreichs an den oberen und unteren Fenstern vorbeifliegt.

Die Strecke ist mit dem TVM430 (Transmission Voie-Machine oder Gleis-Zug-Übertragung) ausgestattet, einem revolutionären Fahrstand-Anzeigesystem, das für den engmaschigen Verkehr von Hochgeschwindigkeitszügen entworfen wurde. Konventionelle Signalisierung ist nicht für den Betrieb an Hochgeschwindigkeitsstrecken geeignet, da die Lokführer zu wenig Zeit haben um die quasi an der Windschutzscheibe vorbeifliegenden Signale zu sehen und entsprechend zu reagieren. Das TVM430 stellt Informationen im Fahrstand bereit und zeigt dem Lokführer, welche Geschwindigkeit er fahren sollte, und das ohne konventionelle Signalisierung neben der Strecke.
In der 100 km langen Hochgeschwindigkeitstrecke Marseille nach Avignon enthalten ist der ikonische TGV Duplex in der Lackierung der SNCF®.
