La ville de New York est frappée par une série de meurtres et les cadavres s’accumulent. Pour l’agent du FBI Nicole Bonnet, il est devenu impossible de trouver un lien car rien ne semble relier les victimes entre elles. L’enquete prend cependant une tournure intéressante lorsqu’un employé du métro a la retraite est tué. Il semble que ces meurtres soient en quelque sorte liés a ce que l’on appelle désormais le « crime du siecle », le vol d’une banque dont le butin n’a jamais été retrouvé. Le temps manque et l’agent Bonnet doit établir une connexion avant qu’un autre meurtre ne soit commis.
