The DB BR 182 is a locomotive which is capable of diverse duty, irrespective of region or intended use, all while meeting the latest standards of safety and technology of the time. Deutsche Bahn ordered 25 of these locomotives for “universal” work, giving them a fleet which they could operate on both passenger and freight services in Germany and Austria.

Classified as the DB BR 182, these locomotives have spent their lives filling in for other traction wherever necessary, particularly on commuter networks which were amidst fleet upgrades. The same is true on the Mitteldeutschland S-Bahn, which was not receiving its order of DB BR 1442 units fast enough to replace aging motive power, so the DB BR 182s were drafted into service with DoppelStock vehicles for push/pull passenger operation.

The DB BR 182, along with other “universal” similar locomotives, are known for being some of the fastest accelerating in the world. Not only that, but they are renowned for a unique quirk in their traction motors: as one accelerates, the three-phase motor sequence produces a finely tuned “Do Re Mi” melody, rising up through 13 notes before settling into a more traditional sound set. In addition, as typical braking uses the traction motors to slow down, the same can be heard in reverse, stepping down gradually until the locomotive comes to a stop.

In Train Sim World® 2, the DB BR 182 adds a dash of red to the “Rapid Transit” route, and depicts the Mitteldeutschland S-Bahn S2 line during the transitional period where DB BR 1442 EMUs were still being delivered.

Die DB BR 182 ist eine Lokomotive, die unabhängig von Region oder Ursprungszweck diverse Aufgaben erfüllen kann und dabei den Sicherheits- und Technologiestandards ihrer Zeit entsprach. Die Deutsche Bahn bestellte 25 solche Lokomotiven für „Allzweck“-Arbeiten und erhielt so eine Flotte, mit der sie sowohl Passagier- als auch Güterzüge in Deutschland und Österreich bedienen konnte.

Unter der Bezeichnung DB BR 182 haben diese Lokomotiven ihre Lebensdauer als Ersatz für andere Loks verbracht, insbesondere auf Pendlernetzwerken, die gerade ihre Flotte aufgerüstet haben. Das Gleiche galt für die Mitteldeutschland S-Bahn, deren Bestellung der DB BR 1442 sich verspätete und somit alternde Lokomotiven nicht ersetzen konnte. Stattdessen wurden die DB BR 182 genutzt, um Doppelstockwagen in Passagierzügen zu ziehen oder zu schieben.

Zusammen mit einigen weiteren „universellen“ Lokomotiven gehört die DB BR 182 zu den am schnellsten beschleunigenden Loks der Welt. Zudem ist sie auch für eine besonders originelle Eigenheit bekannt: Bei der Beschleunigung erzeugt die Drehstrommotorsequenz eine gut gestimmte „Do Re Mi“-Melodie, die über 13 Noten ansteigt, bevor sie zu traditionelleren Geräuschen abschweift. Die umgekehrte Sequenz kann gehört werden, wenn die Bremsen die Motoren zur Verlangsamung nutzen, bis die Lokomotive zum Halt kommt.

In Train Sim World 2 fügt die DB BR 182 der „Rapid Transit“-Strecke einen Spritzer rote Farbe hinzu und bildet die Mitteldeutschland S-Bahn S2 während der Übergangsperiode zur DB BR 1442 EMU ab.

La DB BR 182 es una locomotora polivalente, con independencia de la región o el uso al que se destine, sin por ello descuidar los últimos estándares de seguridad y tecnología del momento. Deutsche Bahn encargó 25 de estas locomotoras para uso "universal", lo que le proporcionó una flota que les permitía dar servicio de mercancías y pasajeros en Alemania y Austria.

Clasificadas como DB BR 182, estas locomotoras han dedicado su vida útil a complementar otros trenes, especialmente en redes de cercanías en las que se estaba actualizando sus flotas.
