The beautiful landscape of the Rhineland-Palatinate comes to life in a stunning new route for Train Simulator. 

The 96 kilometre (60 mile) route between Germany’s fourth largest city, Cologne, and one of the country’s oldest cities, Koblenz, runs parallel to the west bank of the Rhine for much of the journey, giving passengers spectacular views across the Rhineland-Palatinate area of West Germany.

The earliest section of the line opened on 15 February 1844 between Bonn and St Pantaleon, Cologne’s former main station. It was then extended in 1856 and 1859 to include Cologne Central Station.

Koblenz is an important interchange in the south for services along the Mosel Valley to France and south to Mainz whilst Cologne is an important local, national and international train hub with more than 280,000 daily travellers frequenting the station. At the midpoint of the route, the former West German capital of Bonn accommodates regular ICE trains that serve much of Germany.

The route forms the southern stretch of Deutsche Bahn’s RE5 ‘Rhein Express’ service, which runs from Emerrich in the north west to Koblenz. Hourly intercity and ICE services, Regio passenger trains and various freight operations also frequent the line. Even the occasional heritage special can be seen in between the busy commuter services.

Medieval towns and castles along the line, plus river barges passing serenely by remind passengers of the historic area they travel through between the two densely urban cities of Cologne and Koblenz. Large freight yards at Bruhl and Bonn-West are also well-known features, as well as the DB Museum at Koblenz-Lützel, which occupies a former depot linked to the main line.

Included with the route is a DB BR 146.0 electric locomotive and Doppelstock (double-decker) coaches forming the RE5 ‘Rhine Express’. A DB BR 294 diesel locomotive with freight wagons and DB BR 101 with passenger coaches also add a variety of services on the route.

Trasa tworzy południowy odcinek RE5 ‘Rhein Express’ linii Deutsche Bahn, który rozciąga się od Emerich na północnym zachodzie do Koblencji. Korzystają z niej także pociągi osobowe Regio, różne składy towarowe oraz pociągi ICE oraz Intercity. Pojawiają się na niej nawet okazjonalnie specjalne historyczne pociągi, które kursują pomiędzy poszczególnymi stacjami.

Średniowieczne miasta oraz zamki znajdujące się wzdłuż trasy oraz leniwie płynące barki rzeczne przypominają pasażerom o historycznej spuściźnie regionu, który przejeżdżają podróżując z jednego gęsto zaludnionego miasta jak Kolonia oraz Koblencja do drugiego. Dobrze znanym elementem krajobrazu są także olbrzymie towarowe stacje rozrządowe w Bruhl oraz zachodniej części Bonn, a także muzeum linii Deutsche Bahn w Koblencji-Lützel, które zajmuje byłą zajezdnię połączoną z główną linią.

Die 96 Kilometer lange Strecke zwischen Deutschlands viertgrößter Stadt, Köln, und einer der ältesten deutschen Städte, Koblenz, verläuft entlang des linken Rheinufers, und ermöglicht den Reisenden spektakuläre Aussichten über das Rheintal. 

Der früheste Abschnitt der Strecke eröffnete am 15. Februar 1844 zwischen Bonn und St. Pantaleon, des damaligen Hauptbahnhofes der Stadt Köln. Sie wurde zwischen 1856 und 1859 erweitert und schloss damit den Kölner Hauptbahnhof ein. 

Koblenz ist ein wichtiger Umsteigebahnhof für Züge Richtung Luxemburg und Frankreich, sowie nach Mainz, während Köln ein wichtiger nationaler und internationaler Bahnhof mit mehr als 280.000 Pendlern täglich ist. In der Mitte der Strecke liegt der Hauptbahnhof der ehemaligen Bundeshauptstadt Bonn, der ebenfalls von verschiedenen ICE Zügen angefahren wird.

Die Strecke bildet den südlichen Abschnitt des RE5, des „Rhein Express“ der Deutschen Bahn AG, der zwischen Emmerich im Nordwesten Deutschlands nach Koblenz fährt. Stündliche InterCity und ICE Verbindungen, DB Regio Passagierzüge und verschiedene Frachtzüge benutzen diese stark befahrene Strecke. Auch Sonderzüge verkehren zwischen den Pendlerzügen auf dieser Strecke.

Mittelalterliche Städte und Burgen entlang der Strecke, sowie die vielen Rheinfähren erinnern die Reisenden an die historisch bedeutende Gegend, die sie auf der Reise zwischen den dichtbesiedelten Städten Köln und Koblenz durchfahren. Große Rangierbahnhöfe und Umschlagebahnhöfe in Brühl und Bonn-West sind ebenso bekannte Merkmale, wie das DB Museum in Koblenz Lützel, das in einem ehemaligen Bahnbetriebswerk untergebracht ist.

In der Strecke enthalten ist die DB BR 146.2 Elektrolokomotive und Doppelstockwagen, die den RE5 „Rhein Express“ bilden. Eine DB BR 294 Diesellokomotive mit Frachtwagons und DB BR 101 mit Reisezugwagen sorgen für verschiedene Dienstleistungen auf dieser Strecke.

Le parcours de 96 km (60 miles) entre la quatrième plus grande ville d'Allemagne, Cologne, et l'une des plus anciennes, Coblence, est parallèle en grande partie à la rive ouest du Rhin, et procure aux passagers des vues spectaculaires à travers la région Rhénanie-Palatinat de l'Allemagne de l'Ouest.

La première section de la ligne a ouvert le 15 février 1844 entre Bonn et St Pantaléon, ancienne gare principale de Cologne. Elle a ensuite été étendue en 1856 et 1859 pour inclure la gare centrale de Cologne.
