Some of the north east of England’s oldest and most important railway lines come together in the stunning new Weardale & Teesdale Network route for Train Simulator.

The broad network of railway lines connected some of the north east’s largest town and cities with collieries across the Pennines, with the first line opening in 1825 that connected the collieries near Shildon with Stockton-on-Tees via Darlington.

At this time, the line was a mere 25 miles in length, but by 1860 it had grown considerably with extensions and branches to virtually every corner of Weardale and Teesdale, covering more than 100 miles. The original line is probably most famous as being the world’s first public railway to use steam locomotives when they were first introduced in 1833.

The area was linked with a prestigious and long list of railway heritage, with several railway-related works and engineering facilities to be found throughout the network. Darlington Railway Works, responsible for the building of many steam and diesel locomotives, was built in 1863 and survived until the Beeching Axe in 1966. Shildon Railway Works, known locally as ‘The Wagon Works’ as it built many of British Rail’s freight revenue vehicles, is also a famous landmark in the area, closing only recently in 1984 and now home to ‘Locomotion’, the National Railway Museum’s second site.

Much of this extensive railway network and many of those famous landmarks suffered at the hands of Dr Beeching, whose sweeping changes to the British rail network in the 1960s closed many of the branch lines to passenger traffic. As collieries closed and freight traffic reduced, by 1980 there was virtually nothing left of the famous routes as they were once known.

Towns such as Crook, Tow Law, Barnard Castle, Piercebridge and Bishop Auckland – once bustling railway towns – lost their stations and trackbed lifted, and today visitors to the area would never believe they once had such a rich railway heritage.

The Weardale and & Teesdale Network faithfully recreates the main lines and branch lines around the area as they were between 1950 and 1960, just before the Beeching closures, recreating almost all of the 100 miles of rail lines between Durham City, Darlington, Middleton-in-Teesdale and Wearhead.

Classic BR green liveried diesel traction is also represented, in the guise of the Class 08, Class 25, Class 37 and Class 101, along with Mk1 blood and custard coaching stock and a number of freight wagons, including a 21t Mineral Hopper, 16t Mineral Wagon, Five Plank Mineral Wagon, Six-Wheel Milk Tanker, Presflo Bulk Powders Wagon, 20t Bitumen Tank Wagon, 20t Toad E Brake Van and 10t Cattle Van.

Also new for the route is a diesel brake tender ‘slug’ in BR green livery, alongside prototypical LNER semaphore and colour light signalling throughout the route.

Einige der ältesten und wichtigsten Eisenbahnlinien des nordöstlichen Englands vereinen sich im Train Simulator zu dem beeindruckenden Eisenbahnnetz der Weardale & Teesdale Network Strecke.

Das weitläufige Netz von Bahnlinien verband einige der größten Städte im Nordosten des Landes mit den Kohlengruben entlang der Pennines. Die erste Strecke wurde 1825 eröffnet und verband die Kohlengruben, die in der Nähe von Shildon liegen, über Darlington mit Stockton-on-Tees.

Die Shildon Eisenbahnwerke, auch besser bekannt als „The Wagon Works“, waren Werkstätte, in denen viele Frachtwaggons für die British Rail gebaut wurden. Sie waren ebenfalls eine bekannte Sehenswürdigkeit dieser Gegend, welche im Jahre 1984 geschlossen, dann aber kurze Zeit später wieder als Außenstelle des National Railway Museums eröffnet wurden und beheimaten heute die Ausstellung „Locomotion“.

Mit der Schließung der Kohlengruben 1980 und aufgrund des gegen Null gesunkenen Frachtaufkommens, war so gut wie nichts mehr an den einstmals so bekannten Eisenbahnstrecken übrig.

Städte wie Crook, Tow Law, Barnard Castle, Piercebridge und Bishop Auckland, die einstmals quirlige Eisenbahnzentren waren, wurden ihrer Bahnhöfe und Infrastruktur beraubt, so dass heutige Besucher kaum noch einen Eindruck von der ehemals reichen Eisenbahnvergangenheit bekommen.

Die Weardale & Teesdale Network Strecke für den Train Simulator bildet die Strecke getreu ihrem Zustand in den 1950er und 1960er Jahren nach, kurz vor Dr. Beechings Reform und den damit einhergehenden Schließungen. Fast alles ist hier in den 100 Meilen (160 km) zwischen Durham City, Darlington, Middleton-in-Teesdale und Wearhead nachgebildet.

Klassische Diesellokomotiven in grüner BR Lackierung verkehren auf den Gleisen, verkörpert durch die Class 08, Class 25, Class 37 und Class 101, zusammen mit den Mk1 Personenwagen in der „blood & custard“ (Blut und Vanillesoße) Lackierung. Eine Reihe von Frachtwaggons sind ebenfalls enthalten:
21t Schüttgutwagen, 16t Schüttgutwagen, „Five Plank“ Schüttgutwagen, dreiachsige Milchtankwagen, Presflo Silowaggons, 20t Bitumen Tankwagen, ein 20t Bremswagen und ein 10t Nutzviehwagen. 

Neu und in dieser Strecke enthalten ist ein Diesel-Bremstender in grüner BR Lackierung und LNER Form- und Lichtsignale entlang der Strecke.

Certaines des lignes de chemin de fer les plus anciennes et les plus importantes du nord-est de l’Angleterre se réunissent dans le splendide nouvel itinéraire Weardale & Teesdale Network pour Train Simulator.

Ce vaste réseau de lignes de chemin de fer reliait certaines des plus grandes villes du nord-est aux mines de charbon à travers les Pennines. La première ligne ouvrit en 1825 et reliait les mines près de Shildon à Stockton-on-Tees via Darlington.

Une grande partie de ce vaste réseau ferroviaire et de nombreuses installations célèbres ont succombés entre les mains du Dr Beeching, qui par ses changements radicaux au réseau British Rail dans les années 60 ferma la plupart des branches au trafic voyageur. Comme les mines de charbon furent fermées, et le trafic de marchandises réduit, en 1980 il ne restait pratiquement rien de ces lignes autrefois célèbres.

Des villes comme Crook, Tow Law, Barnard Castle, Piercebridge et Bishop Auckland – autrefois animées par le rail – perdirent leur gare, et les rails furent enlevés. Aujourd’hui, les visiteurs de la région ne pourraient jamais croire que celles-ci avaient autrefois un patrimoine ferroviaire aussi riche. 

L’extension Weardale & Teesdale Network recrée fidèlement le réseau comme il était possible de le parcourir entre 1950 et 1960, juste avant les fermetures du Dr Beeching. La quasi intégralité des 160 kilomètres (100 miles) des lignes du réseau sont recréées, entre Durham, Darlington, Middleton-in-Teesdale et Wearhead. 

Les diesels classiques en livrée verte de la BR sont également représentés, avec les Class 08, Class 25, Class 37 et Class 101. Sont également inclus des voitures Mk 1 en livrée sang et crème ainsi qu’un certain nombre de wagons, incluant un wagon-trémie 21 t de minerai, un wagon 16 t de minerai, un wagon de minerai à 5 planches, une citerne de lait à 6 roues, un wagon de poudre en vrac Presflo, un wagon-citerne 20 t de bitume, un fourgon-frein 20 t Toad E et un wagon bétailler 10 t. 

Autre nouveauté pour cet itinéraire : un tender de freinage diesel « slug » ( « limace ») en livrée BR verte, au côté d’une signalisation mécanique et lumineuse LNER réaliste, sur l’ensemble du réseau.
